Case Study // Ebbsfleet/Eastern Quarry – Land Securities/Ward Homes

Erith were employed by Land Securities as Principal Contractor on the first phase of the enabling and infrastructure works. The project was situated in the Eastern Quarry at Ebbsfleet in readiness for a major new strategic development.

Adjacent to the M25 on its junction with the A2, the site has outline planning permission for 10,000 homes, 6 million sqft of commercial space and 3 million sqft of retail, leisure and community facilities. More than 40% of Ebbsfleet Valley will be open space and landscaped.

This phase of the development involved:

  • 65,000m3 cut and fill
  • Archaeological watching brief following discovery of paleontological artefacts
  • Comprehensive land drainage and storm water storage systems
  • 2.5km of adoptable highway
  • 500m of local authority footpath diversion
  • 400m foul water pumping main and RC pumping station
  • 4 ha landscaped park

Castle Hill

Erith have commenced work on construction of the first 150 residential units at Castle Hill, Ebbsfleet for Ward Homes. Initially employed as Principal Contractor for the enabling phase and development of show houses and sales centre; Erith then transferred the Principal Contractor obligations to Ward Homes and undertook a traditional groundworks package, consisting of the following activities:

  • Foundations
  • Brickwork and Blockwork to DPC
  • Design, Supply and Install of PCC Flooring
  • Adoptable Drainage
  • Adoptable Roads and Footpaths
  • Domestic Drainage
  • Service Connections
  • Hard Landscaping
  • Public Open Space and Soft Landscaping

Project Goals

  • No reportable accidents or incidents recorded throughout the life of the contract
  • Project completed within the desired contract programme
