Football’s Coming Home

Last month saw Erith storm to victory in Multiplex’s annual 7-a-side charity football tournament. Hosted at the Hackney Marshes Centre in London, the tournament was supported by locals, colleagues and clients alike.

Erith have participated in the tournament for the past 4 years, this year in support of nominated charities; Chickenshed and Willow.

Erith, as always, put in tremendous effort despite the scorching sun and sweltering heat. The valiant effort put in by our players was noticeable, especially with the humbling elimination from the tournament we experienced in 2016.  Their performance this year was outstanding and everyone within the company is very proud of their achievement.

Particular highlights of the tournament came from centre of our attack in the form of Lee Jack, whose sensational half-volley in the quarter-final was surely a contender for goal of the tournament.  Our man between the posts, goalkeeper Chris Turok-Hallam, also provided several memorable moments, not least his composure when carrying us through two penalty shoot-outs.

The team are eagerly awaiting the tournament next year to defend their trophy and continue to help Multiplex raise money for worthy charities.

Erith’s team captain, Serhan Cemal, commented: “This was a tough tournament.  Strong opposition, lots of matches in quick succession and hot weather.  But I am proud to have led the team to victory.  Football has come home to Erith.  Now we just need England to do the same in the World Cup.”
