Fulham Wharf Phase 2
Following the demolition of the Sainsbury’s superstore, we were contracted by Barratt London to undertake a large-scale enabling package across a series of stages at Fulham Wharf. 
The site at Fulham Wharf is located to the South East of Townmead Road, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham on the North bank of the River Thames. 
Technical challenges
The programme was executed across 36 weeks, with the core objective being to accommodate a main contractor phased sales programme. 
The brownfield redevelopment site was split into two phases – with the latter occupying a former Sainsbury’s supermarket and associated car park.

Works involved bulk excavation of 35,000m3 deep basement, piling contractor attendance for secant and bored CFA piles1.1m thick reinforced piling mat at formation level, up to 6m deep, installation of a running surface where piles had been installed at a high level and removal of piling and pile cap arisings for the follow-on contractor. 

An extensive dewatering system was used as the site was adjacent River Thames.

THE DETAIL
The site had historically been used for contaminative land uses.  
History

The site and surrounding areas had been occupied for contaminative land uses from as far back as the late 1890s where a former brewery existed, through to the early 1970s, where investigations found numerous bulk storage tanks cast in-situ.
